Sekayi Anika, holistic services business owner, first was introduced to vaginal steaming while looking for a healing solution to alleviate side-effects from a hysterectomy. Dealing with all of the side-effects from a hysterectomy: dryness, low libido, hot-flashes, etc., Sekayi found that after steaming, moisture returned, she began to feel feminine and sexy again and her husband was happy!!! We interviewed Sekayi to learn more.
What is your profession?
I work full-time as a graphic designer, but I also run my small holistic services business, Sekayi Anika, where I provide energy shifting services that promote wholeness and transformation which include shamanic reiki and most recently, vaginal steaming.
Where did you go to school or get your professional training?
I completed all three levels of Usui Reiki training, a Japanese healing art, with Dora Locklear in Kennesaw, GA, completed a nine month shamanic training course with Don Simmons in Atlanta and received my Vaginal Steam Facilitator certification from Keli Garza at Steamy Chick. I am a forever student and recently enrolled in a Kemetic Reiki course. Kemetic Reiki is the ancient science of spiritual healing that was practiced by the Egyptian priests, physicians and layman. I also enrolled in intensive shamanic training to continue to grow deeper and evolve higher.
How long have you been practicing?
I started Sekayi Anika and began seeing clients just over a year ago for reiki services. I added the steaming services six months ago.
What has your personal experience with steaming been?
As I mentioned, I had a hysterectomy. I was dealing with all of the side-effects: dryness, low libido, hot-flashes, etc. Since steaming, moisture has returned, I feel feminine and sexy again and my husband is happy!!!
Why did you decide to offer this service to women? Was there an “aha” moment?
If I knew about steaming when I first found out I had PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) or even when I first found out I had Stage IV endometriosis, I truly believe I would NOT have had the hysterectomy. I believe we, as women, think that the pain we go through with our cycles is warranted. That that is just how it’s supposed to be and that it’s a curse or something to hide and be shameful about. That our only options for relief are prescription drugs, shots or surgery. If I can help one woman NOT go through what I did then it’s worth it! Steaming is water and herbs. It’s non-invasive, affordable and all-natural.
How long have you been offering vaginal steam services?
In total about six months.
Where do you offer your services?
I offer initial steam sessions in my home office. The goal, however, is for the woman to take control of her own gynecological health so I help in setting up her steaming sessions in her own home.
What benefits do vaginal steam services have for your clients?
Providing a safe space for women to open and release is most important to me. To hold space for her while she cries about the pain she’s always in or have a listening ear as she talks through her concerns about being able to have children. That’s the connection that I feel is most impactful.
How do clients respond when you offer them vaginal steam services? Any funny stories?
If only you could see their faces!!! Words cannot capture their expressions! But, they are curious, skeptical at times but curious. There was one client, who sent a text after her very first steam that said: "Just finished my first steam." They’re a bit anxious but I think that was more so first time jitters and trusting that the chair wouldn't crash into burning water!! It’s so funny but I love to hear their excitement! It’s like something opens up within them to want to fight for their health for themselves!
Any favorite quotes from clients either during or after steaming?
“I did not anticipate such changes the first round of steaming.”
“Sorry, don’t know who else to text over a happy period!”
“Look at that! I'm a believer!”
Do any vaginal steam success stories stand out where the client had a significant health breakthrough?
Yes, my very first client. She hadn't had her period since September and after her first steam in April, she alerted me she started her period again. I asked her to confirm that it was fresh blood and she said, “Yes, it is fresh blood...my last period was September. I have a lot of hope in steaming.” I was so very happy for her! I mentioned that she may have some cramping and it was her attitude about it that showed the most transformation in her. She said: “You know what, I am actually excited about it! Not that I want to experience the pain, but I am thankful.”
